The third season of the American psychological thriller television series You was ordered by Netflix on January 14, 2020. It features the continuation of Joe Goldberg’s fraught relationship with Love, who is pregnant with his child in a new suburban home.
Produced by Warner Horizon Television (now Warner Bros. Television), in association with Alloy Entertainment and A+E Studios, the first season is based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes and follows Joe Goldberg, a New York bookstore manager and serial killer who falls in love with a customer named Guinevere Beck and quickly develops an extreme, toxic, and delusional obsession. The second season follows Joe as he moves to Los Angeles and falls in love with local heiress Love Quinn.
We get to hear our stalker narrate 10 episodes (over 8 hours) as he plans his victims’ demise. The usual artificial, not real, flashbacks of a dysfunctional childhood. Stalker able to avoid the most obvious forensic detective investigations (actually almost none which makes this series seem technically fake). Victims, of course, are less than perfect humans so the sympathy angle is out. Screen time is 90+% predictable dialogue talking heads I made good use, in saving my time, by ff. Might need help if this was an enjoyable passing the time entertainment.

First of all, loads of congratulations to Penn Badgely’s superior and creepy acting as the enigmatic and psycho lead character bearing dark secrets of his past leading to the dangerous person he is shown in the present in the show. He was perfectly cast, catapulted the whole series upward and is an actor full of specific talents as fans remember him well in Gossip Girl.
That being said, the difference and superiority of season 2 over the first one, IMO, was the casting and presence of Victoria Pedretti who shone and almost singlehandedly lifted the season 2 all by herself. She deserves nomination after nomination and ultimately awards as does Penn Badgely as the lead actors, together with various nominations for the show itself starting at the prestigious Emmy 2020.
On a side note, please don’t forget and underestimate the performances of Elizabeth Lail and Shay Mitchell in season 1, who very brightly acted and are among the reasons, which makes this show unique.
Highly recommended series to watch, enjoy and ponder upon as most reviews and ratings do it justice.
