A pair of interwoven stories set in the present and past follows Ellie Haworth, an ambitious journalist who discovers a trove of secret love letters from 1965 and becomes determined to solve the mystery of the forbidden affair at their center. As she uncovers the story behind Jennifer Stirling, the wife of a wealthy industrialist, and Anthony O’Hare, the financial journalist assigned to cover him, Ellie’s own love story unfolds with the assistance of an earnest, endearing archivist who helps her track down more letters.
A sweet romantic story. The couples have chemistry, especially Jenny and B. But after all, it’s quite predictable and nothing new. For me, the older versions of J. And B. Looked way too young (the difference between the 2 stories as its shown is more than 50 years?). Despite the aforementioned, it’s a nice watch for a date, sleepover and especially for hopeless romantics.. I would recommend watching it, it’s a good, cute movie.
The movie is a by the numbers, formulaic romance that seems to be operating under the assumption that the audience will be satisfied by well worn conventions. It’s certainly watchable and a passable way to spend a Sunday summer evening in Netflix and Chill mode – if you can get past some of the terrible English accents from two of the leads. Felicity Jones mostly saves the film.
