The Croods 2: A New Age 2020 produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. The sequel to The Croods (2013) as well as the second film in The Croods franchise, the film is directed by Joel Crawford (in his feature directorial debut) with a screenplay by Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman, Paul Fisher, and Bob Logan from a story by the original directors Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. Starring with Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman reprise their roles from the first film alongside new additions to the cast including Peter Dinklage, Leslie Mann, and Kelly Marie Tran.

Still searching for a place to settle down after the cataclysmic events of The Croods (2013), the overprotective prehistoric patriarch, Grug, leads his family to the great unknown. Hoping for the best in an increasingly dangerous world, while trying to come to terms with Eep and Guy’s budding romance, Grug stumbles upon a secluded Eden of plenty, containing everything that they have been seeking. However, there is a catch. This verdant heaven on Earth is already occupied by the significantly more evolved Bettermans: Phil, Hope, and their daughter, Dawn. Now, as tensions boil over between the antagonistic clans, a new menace threatens the future of both families. “The Croods: A New Age” was actually rather enjoyable. Not only was the storyline pretty entertaining, but it was also an all together enjoyable animated movie. So I was definitely more than surprised with this one. But as I haven’t seen the previous movies, then I wasn’t familiar with the characters or the stories, so I didn’t really have much to put this 2020 addition up against.
The animation and art style in “The Croods: A New Age” was pretty good. I was enjoying what I was seeing on the screen. I mean, with the voices of Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Nicolas Cage, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman, Leslie Mann, Peter Dinklage and Kelly Marie Tran – to name but the most recognizable of names – what is there not to like?
My rating of “The Croods: A New Age” lands on a six out of ten stars. It is an animated movie that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
